"NPhA: Rich in history, Leaders in our community, Exceptional in pharmacy"

We will host our 63rd annual convention July 23rd - 26th at the Renaissance Seattle Hotel in Seattle, Washington. As the oldest national organization representing minority pharmacists, the National Pharmaceutical Association (NPhA) is uniquely positioned to address many of the health care issues impacting our communities.

With the current economic climate in our nation, the health care system is particularly challenged. Many parents can no longer afford to carry health insurance for their families due to spiraling premiums. Employers are discontinuing health insurance benefits for their employees because of increasing cost. The growing number of uninsured have limited or no access to health care services. As such, providing health care to this population is a daunting task and health care reform is desperately needed to unburden our health care system.

In February, the First Lady, Michelle Obama launched her childhood obeisity initiative entitled, "Let's Move". The initiative seeks to end childhood obesity. NPhA with its student affiliate, the Student Nationl Pharmaceutical Association (SNPhA) are supportive of this initiative and we will be working to increase the awareness and subsequently decrease the prevalence of childhood obesity in minority communities.

Of all health care providers, pharmacists are in an ideal position to impact the diseases that plague our communities. Through medication therapy management (MTM) pharmacists are working one-on-one with patients to optimize medication therapy, encourage healthy eating and physical excercise, which will improve health outcomes and quality of life.

So join us for the 2010 convention as we address some of these challenging issues. This will be a great educational event! I look forward to seeing you in Seattle, Washington.
